Reasonable Doubt at 30: Roc Nation Turns New York Into the Exhibit

Reasonable Doubt arrived on June 25, 1996, a street-level debut built on hustler ambition, luxury rap and a specifically Brooklyn point of view. Thirty years later Roc Nation is marking it with JAŸ-Z30, a citywide celebration of the album and the catalog that grew out of it.

The program launched on the album's original release date with activations across New York: immersive pop-ups, exclusive merch, archival material, commemorative Brooklyn Public Library cards, custom subway maps, an Assouline partnership and fireworks.

The anchor is in Manhattan, where the decommissioned Bowery Station on the Lower East Side is being converted into an immersive archive. Putting the exhibit underground is the point — the tribute is meant to feel like a New York moment as much as a music one.
