Lauryn Hill and Wyclef Jean Reopen the Fugees Chapter at 30
Three decades after The Score, the two say they are 'in an amazing place' — and fans are reading it as a hint.
The Fugees have not put out a studio album since The Score landed in 1996, and that record still functions as a dividing line in rap history: Ready or Not, Fu-Gee-La and Killing Me Softly turned a Jersey trio into a global act and gave the genre one of its most-played crossovers.
Speaking to the BBC ahead of a 30th-anniversary concert in Milton Keynes, Lauryn Hill described the group as having come through what she called an incredible healing process. Wyclef Jean put it plainer, saying the two are in an amazing place and breaking into song mid-interview to celebrate being back with his bandmate.
Neither of them promised a record. But after years of one-off reunions and a tour that never quite completed itself, the tone was different — less about settling old business and more about what a Fugees project could still sound like in 2026. For anyone who wore out The Score, that is the closest thing to news in a long time.
The pair have shared stages repeatedly over the past few years, and the anniversary run gave the catalog a proper live setting again rather than a nostalgia slot on someone else's bill.
